Shaggy Rugs

Because shag rugs are the most comfy.

Many people love to use a shaggy rug inside of their home or office because of their unique look. They come in a variety of colors and though many of them do not use a particular pattern the way in which it is woven is enough to compliment any room. Like with any rug they are often used to accentuate certain parts of rooms that are considered to be high traffic areas. In order to keep them from becoming matted down and dingy looking we have to know how to clean them on a regular basis.

Directions

Dirt, leaves, debris, and even food can easily become stuck inside of the shaggy rug. You need to start off cleaning this by vacuuming it at least 2 or 3 times each week. Shaggy rugs are thick and can become stuck in the bottom of the vacuum. To prevent this you want to use your soft brush attachment and hose when vacuuming it. Remember to move the attachment in every direction so as to get deep down and remove everything.

Once you have thoroughly vacuumed the top portion of the shaggy rug it is time to flip it over and work on the back. Some people find it easier to use a large bristle broom for this part when the rug is smaller. The bristles are effective at pushing the dirt out of the pile.

Like with carpets – some times sweeping and vacuuming is not enough to get the dirt out of the very bottom of the shaggy rugs. Roll them up and lay them on a clothesline or your porch railing. Use the broom to beat the dirt out of them. You will be amazed at how much comes out when this happens. It is also effective at pushing the pile out and making it look thick again.

Now that all of the dirt and debris has been remove you need to clean out any stains. Rent a carpet steam cleaner for a day. Follow the directions carefully on how it should be used. You should clean it with the steam cleaner at least once every six months to keep it from looking dingy and to make the colors more vibrant like when you first bought it.
