Shaggy Rugs

Because shag rugs are the most comfy.

Did you know that denim is one of the most durable fabrics and that it can last for years? People wear denim jeans constantly because of how diverse, comfortable, and durable they are. Why not use this unique fabric to create a jean shaggy rug for your home. You can make one for your teens bedroom using old jeans that they don’t wear anymore.

Fold a denim circle in half and fold it again. Mark the center of it with a pin.

Fold a 2 by2 inch square in half to create a triangle. Pin the triangle to the center of the denim circle.

Place the circle and triangle under the sewing machine pressure foot. Try to sew in a spiral or circle of the triangles. Keep one next to the other in a chain like path starting from the center of the circle and out to the edges.

Sew it together with a straight stitch through the center of the triangle. Make sure that all of the faces of the triangles are facing the same way when you start. Don’t take the circle from the sewing machine.

Fold another 2 by 2 square inch to create another triangle.

Lift the pressure foot on the machine and place the triangle as close to the already sewn triangle you worked on without bunching it up. It is okay if it overlaps. Sew with a straight stitch through the center of it.

Fold and place the next triangle to create a circle spiral. Use a pen to draw the spiral path so you know where to sew. Keep adding more triangles and line them up beside each other.

Glue a 20 inch diameter circle on nonslip rubber line on the bottom of the circle. Use a glue gun and glue sticks to secure it in place and allow it to dry. This will keep the rug from sliding on the floor.
